To succeed, jump as quickly at opportunities as you do at conclusions. – Benjamin Franklin

My friends, opportunity awaits.  Have you realized that jumping rope isn’t just for kids?  Are you intrigued?  Maybe you need a little more convincing.  Step over the threshold with my TOP 5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD JUMP ROPE.  If this doesn’t convince you, I’ll eat my hat.  If I am not wearing a hat, then I won’t eat it.  I am not too worried, though.  I am sure you will see the light.

Jumping rope is an amazing, high-intensity, cardio exercise that provides major benefits in less time than other, moderate-intensity forms of cardio training.  According to The Jump Rope Institute, which was founded by the legendary roper, Buddy Lee, when you jump you should be shooting for about 120 RPMs, or two jumps per second, which is not as hard as it seems, trust me.  With just ten minutes of nonstop jumping at this rate, you will achieve the same benefits as you would from jogging for 30 minutes.  Now that’s what I call a win-win!

In one 10-20 minute jumping session, a person of my weight would burn somewhere in the range of 200-300 calories.  Now, you can burn the same amount of calories by walking for an hour or running for 30 minutes at a moderate pace.  One of the added benefits of high-intensity training is that you continue to burn fat up to 24-hours after you’ve stopped exercising.  You definitely don’t get that from other types of steady-state or moderate-intensity cardio.

Let’s talk about bones for a second.  Crucial to your ability to pretty much do anything, you will thank yourself later by taking care of them now.  As you get older, your bones start to lose density.  When this happens, you are at greater risk for all types of injuries and fractures, not to mention osteoporosis.  One of the best exercises you can do to stimulate bone growth  is to jump up and down.   Bones respond really well to sudden and jarring force.  The impact of landing after a jump stresses your bones and forces them to grow stronger.  Best start jumping before you end up with holey bones – and i don’t mean saintly!

What do we want to workout today?  Arms?  Legs?  Shoulders?  Core?  How about EVERYTHING!  Without getting into too much detail about all the muscles that are working together when you jump rope, let’s just say it’s a lot of them.  Jumping is especially great for one of the harder areas to target, the elusive calves.  If there is one thing that guys are always asking me in the gym, it’s how to build calves. Do you know what other muscle you work when you jump rope?  Your brain!  Your brain is on hyperdrive when you jump rope.  It has to seriously focus, maintain the body’s balance, coordinate all the moving parts, and keep a steady rhythm.  Multi-tasking to the max.  So in other words, you might unleash you inner Albert Einstein – if you jump rope.

Lastly, but maybe most importantly, jumping rope is SUPER DUPER FUN.  It’s important to try to find types of exercising that you actually want to do.  If you don’t like doing something, you just won’t do it.  Another fun aspect of jumping is that you can learn a lot of awesome tricks.  You’re going to look cool, you’re going to get a lot of dates, I mean, you just can’t go wrong.  And finally, don’t they say that variety is the spice of life?  With jumping, you will never be bored.  There is always a new trick to practice, a new song to jump to.  Jumping can stay fresh and fun forever, as long as you are willing to expand your horizons and learn new things.

Stay tuned for my next video where I will teach you the fundamental jump rope techniques that will have you jumping like a badass in no time.
