HEALTHY HABIT 02: 1-MINUTE TICKET TO FROZEN TREAT PARADISE AKA NICE CREAM 4-WAYS
For those of you who want to be healthy but can’t help gorging yourselves on fatty, sugary frozen desserts when it’s hot, NICE CREAM may very well be your savior. This healthy, mind-bogglingly simple DIY frozen treat will satisfy all of your deepest desires (or at least a few of them). In less than 1-minute, you can have your nice cream and eat it, too!
WHAT IN TARNATION IS NICE CREAM?
Nice cream is super cool and friendly. It melts during long walks on the beach and is very adventurous. Nice cream eagerly awaits your call.
Nice cream is, in its most basic form, processed frozen bananas. When you process frozen bananas, it magically transforms into a creamy, banana-flavored soft serve. It doesn’t take a lot to amaze me, so when I witnessed this transformation for the first time, I was blown away. My universe expanded at least a few inches. Since then, I have experimented with all kinds of banana-based nice cream flavors AND other types of fruit-based flavors, some of which work just as well. MIND BLOWN AGAIN.
WHY SHOULD I GO FOR NICE CREAM OVER ICE CREAM?
1.) There are NO ADDED SUGARS. You are literally just eating fruit, which is dang good for you. 2 bananas, for example contain about 29g of sugar (but good sugar). A cup of Haagan-Dazs vanilla ice cream, on the other hand, contains around 44g of sugar (added, processed sugar).
2.) There is NO FAT. Ok, that’s not exactly true. 2 bananas have about 1g of fat and 210 calories. A cup of that same Haagan-Dazs ice cream has 35g of fat, though, a majority of which is saturated. And 528 calories. No bueno.
3.) You have absolute control over the ingredients (no nasty 💩 you can’t pronounce)! You should probably like eating fruit, though.
THE KEY TO MAKING THE NICEST NICE CREAM
1.) Frozen Fruit
2.) Food Processor
3.) Toppings or other flavor changers
4.) That’s it!
5.) Seriously.
You can make whatever flavor combinations you want by experimenting with different types of fruit. Bananas are obviously the original base fruit (just make sure they are ripe before you freeze them), but mango, pineapple and even strawberries will transform in the same way. You can play with the texture (and quicken the process) by adding a splash or two of some kind of plant milk. Coconut milk, soy and almond are all solid options. Once you are comfortable with the basics, you can start getting fancy by adding other ingredients. Popular add-ins include peanut butter/nut butter, chocolate, cacao, carob, coconut flakes, a cup of some other fruits/berries, cookie dough. The world is your oyster. Create your favorite flavors!
